My research interests encompass ecological and evolutionary consequences of global change drivers (in particular artificial light at night, urbanization, intensification of agriculture, and biological invasions) on biodiversity, species interactions, and ecosystem functioning, ranging from the gene to the ecosystem level, extending over ecologically diverse habitats and landscapes, comprising a broad variety of organisms and different spatial and temporal scales, and testing mechanisms and theories of modern basic and applied ecology.

Night Ecology

I am interested in nocturnal plant-pollinator interactions and their contribution to community ecological processes. Further, I investigate how they are affected by the worldwide rapidly increasing light pollution.

PhD student: Simone Giavi

Agro-ecology

The focus of my research in agro-ecology is on how intensification of agricultural practises affect biodiversity, biotic interactions, and ecosystem functioning.

PhD thesis: Dominik Ganser

Invasion Ecology

I am interested in the ecological impact of invasive species and the underlying mechanisms of their impact. Furthermore, I test hypotheses and explore mechanisms of their success.

Urban Ecology

I am interested in elucidating factors and underlying mechanisms that drive biodiversity, biotic interactions, and ecosystem functioning in cities.
